Glad someone is pointing the contradictory nature of TFL who seem to be more concerned with getting to say their piece publically without anyone engaging it in reality. Honestly, they and their predecessors aren’t interested in good faith arguements and just want to essentially be edgelords with thesauruses. Used to know Maddie and she was a nice person (not good just nice).

In an advanced economy, planning does not need to be done entirely by the state in order to obtain our collective goals such as a more sustainable economy. The price system is arguably a superior mechanism for organizing human decision making than any mechanism of direct government control of the economy. A Carbon Tax for instance, I would argue, is one of the best policy tools that could be used to address the issue of climate change precisely because such a policy uses the decentralized nature of the price mechanism to incentivize every member of society to alter their consumption behavior without having to involve the state in controlling the economy. The result is that people will re-organize their own behavior toward a new pattern of market interactions where C02 emissions are lower, and yet, this would have been acomplished by altering prices to re-organize the behavior of millions of people without the state having to command people to do so.

A “guardian state” that acts as a supposedly rational manager over the entirety of the economy is not the only way to solve our economic and ecological problems.

A “Guardian State” just sounds like communism with extra steps
