The International Humanitarian Crisis Initiative (IHCI), a campus organization founded last spring, has expanded membership this year and is working on both new and continuing projects to help alleviate the worldwide refugee crisis. The group was co-founded by Anthoula Christodoulou and Yara Samman with help from businessman and unofficial advisor José Ramà³n Campos. “Me and Anthoula have always been interested in helping out refugees and just helping out people who are very unfortunate. And so...

This coming Sunday, recruitment for Trinity’s seven sororities and six fraternities will officially begin with the “Greek 101″ information session in Ruth Taylor, followed by a kickoff event on the Esplanade. These events will occur at the end of “Greek Week,” a series of events for current members which lead up to the start of recruitment. “[Greek Week] is more about us getting really excited for the recruitment process, and also demonstrating Greek unity through...

Trinity University has changed the policy for off-campus parties. The new system abandons the enforcement of specific rules for off-campus parties and instead provides nine recommendations with the central goal of harm reduction. The guidelines were initially developed by a subcommittee of students, including representatives from Greek Council Executive Board and the Student Athlete Advisory Committee. “Once we identified that we wanted to see a change and that we needed a new approach, the students...

This year will be the second time Trinity’s incoming class enters the modified “First Year Experience” (FYE) program, which combines the previous Writing Workshop and First Year Seminar courses into a mandatory six-hour course taken in the fall semester. The change was a part of the switch from the old Common Curriculum to Pathways. “I think it’s more coherent, more focused and more intense,” said Willis Salomon, Associate Professor of English and coordinator of the...

Hundreds of first years and other Trinity students crowded into Laurie Auditorium last Monday for the fall Student Involvement Fair (SIF), where over 100 organizations were represented, including 5 outside vendors. For many campus groups, SIF is the most important recruiting event of the year. “I have organizations who sometimes don’t meet the deadline of registering for a table, saying, “˜This is our biggest recruiting effort for the whole year, we need to be here.’...

A team of 15 faculty and staff has been assembled to lead the development of Trinity’s Quality Enhancement Plan (Q.E.P.), which will focus on enhancing first-year students’ learning through strategic changes to teaching, advising and support services. The Q.E.P. is a part of Trinity’s reaffirmation of accreditation, which is required every ten years to maintain our status as an accredited institution. “They had a number of open forums and ideas workshops for people to come...

Due to increased demand for on-campus housing from first years and seniors this year, Residential Life has allowed some juniors to live off campus and changed on-campus arrangements to ensure everyone has a place to live. The process of releasing juniors to live off campus caused uncertainty for some students who did not find out where they would be living until near the end of the summer. The housing requirement usually keeps students on campus...
