Illustration by Genevieve Humphreys It all started at a tennis tournament. I was waiting for my match to begin when one of my teammates asked, “Why don’t you have any social media? You’re funny, you’ll be good at it.” I was a freshman in high school, and I figured, well, sharing my thoughts in a public forum where absolutely anyone can see what I’m thinking could never be too detrimental, now could it? From the...

On Saturday, March 24, I participated in March For Our Lives along with members of Trinity Progressives and other members of the Trinity community. MFOL was pioneered by Parkland students activists such as Emma Gonzalez and David Hogg to protest gun violence and commemorate the 17 victims of the Parkland shooting. Overall, the march was a positive experience. San Antonio citizens came together, holding signs with slogans like “Books Not Bullets” and “Make America Safe Again.” Some people were...

This past weekend, I spent my 30th class reunion at Trinity sneaking off to Austin to see Jay-Z with my son, a Trinity first-year, reminiscing about the class of 1987 and reading the responses in the Trinitonian to Daniel Conrad’s column about how conservatives on campus are winning. With the Oct. 5 date behind us-the last day for DACA renewals-there has been a lot of buzz about what Congress will do. They have five months before deportations begin. Six different bills of legislation are being considered; here’s what you need to know. The Development, Relief, and Education for Alien Minors (DREAM) Act is a bipartisan bill known also as the Graham-Durbin bill after its proposal by Sens. Lindsey Graham, R-S.C., and Dick Durbin,...

Political and moral opinions should be taken seriously. They’re opinions about the sorts of things that demand passionate belief and deserve fervent defense. If you’re not committed to your political beliefs, why hold them? And if you’re not going to act on them, are you really committed? Ever get a “˜common sense’ intuition that most here lean liberal? Yeah, us too. And the conservative student group Tigers for Liberty (TFL) gets away with painting the student...
