The following covers the meeting on Sept. 18.
This week’s meeting was held in the Underwood Room in the Skyline Dining Room. The change in location was to accommodate Charles Robles, food service director for Aramark, for a presentation on behalf of Dining Services.
Sophomore senator Ben Falcon asked whether SGA would be continuing to supply feminine products in restrooms on campus. Senior and president Ty Tinker explained that SGA has ordered the products through SGA’s budget and the products are waiting in the Office of Student Involvement. SGA just needs to nominate volunteers to place the products across campus.
Sophomore senator Esther Omegba explained that she has heard multiple complaints about how the university book store charged students who ordered used textbooks for new textbooks due to lack of inventory. Omegba will work alongside Paul Wright, director of business operations, to speak with representatives from the book store to try to resolve the problem.
Sophomore senator Rachel Kaufman said that she’s been approached by football players to talk about the turn out of the student section at the last football game. She asked SGA to think of ways to improve student spirit and attendance at football games.
DINING SERVICES PRESENTATION
David Tuttle, dean of students, introduced Robles, Wright and Rachel Hernandez, marketing specialist for Dining Services. Robles and Hernandez presented the Dining Services annual budget report and explained that their team has been working on culinary innovations and changes, including being more plant-forward, offering more variety and soliciting student feedback.
Two representatives of the Austin-based firm 49 Financial spoke to SGA about their business and takeaways from their positions at the company. 49 Financial will be opening a San Antonio firm. The representatives were at the Career Fair earlier in the day.
