The Mail Center is operating on new, extended hours as of Monday Oct. 9, 2018. Weekday hours have been extended to 8 a.m to 6 p.m. The Mail Center is also now open on Saturdays from 10 a.m. to 2 p.m.
“For decades the Mail Center has functioned marvelously under the classical time frame of a work day. However, communication and consumerism has drastically morphed into an online reality,” wrote Carl Jeffery, the mailroom manager, over email. “Prioritizing students’ academics and minimizing the frustrations of practical matters, we have decided — in a rather historical move — to add to our hours of operation.”
According to Jeffery, students are the main focus when making improvements to university services.
“Facilities Services and Mail Services have an outstanding partnership in which our main goal is serving our wonderful and bright students,” Jeffery wrote. “Brainstorming and attacking the drawing board are a perpetual matter in that we are constantly looking for new and better ways to enhance the practicality of student life.”
Sophomore Miranda Montoya has been working in the Mail Center since the first semester of her first year.
“I know that we extended our hours because students were complaining that they could not make it to the mail center during regular hours,” Montoya said. “We don’t want students missing out on their packages, so we hope that they actually utilize the extended hours.”
Jeffery understands that these extensions are new and the Mail Center will continue to adapt and improve. And at this point, students working at the Mail Center will not be working on Saturdays.
“Although we have entered new territory with the hopes of improvement, we also understand that we are in the beginning stages of this change, and the status quo is always subject to change for the enhancement and refinement of student life,” Jeffery wrote. “Moreover, we appreciate the Mail Center employees who are always willing to step up and go the extra mile for our students and university.”
