Renovations brighten Lightner, Thomas Halls

Students return to remodeled rooms, more construction planned for next summer
New carpet tile, paint, ceiling fans, doors and marble countertops greeted Lightner and Thomas Hall residents upon move-in. In just five weeks this summer, contractors worked their way down, several floors at a time, to remodel 60 rooms and the Tea Room in six-story Lightner Hall and 106 rooms in eight-story Thomas Hall in Phase 2 of construction.

In the fall of 2007, Assistant Professor of Engineering Science Jack Leifer's Engineering Design class began a project that not only stretched their minds and imaginations but also applied practical engineering designs to real-world problems that, ultimately, could help the handicapped in the work force.
