Track-lete volunteers to search for tickets

Every year, a magical thing happens in the month of March that unites and divides people from eclectic backgrounds and creates unmitigated frenzy across the nation. It is an event that encompasses schools from both the East and West Coasts and causes people to cease their daily activities so they can watch this colossal spectacle.
But this year, "March Madness," as it is commonly known, brought more than just emotional ties and lost bets to us Trinity students; it brought University of North Carolina (UNC), University of Memphis, University of California Los Angeles (UCLA), and Kansas University, four renowned DI basketball teams, to us…live.
That's right. The Final Four NCAA Men's DI Basketball Championship was held at the Alamodome this past Saturday and Monday, no further than three miles from our campus.
I received the e-mail in my inbox about two weeks prior to the Final Four from one of my fellow track-letes that stood out from the normal updates of events and performances. I curiously glanced over the e-mail and was immediately drawn to the question it asked: "Volunteering at the Final Four where you will be checking people's bags for weapons and what not. Anyone interested?" I quickly jumped on that reply button and said "Hell yes, I'm interested!"
On the Saturday of the semi-final round, I have to admit, I was a little hesitant about leaving my comfortable room to go to the seemingly mundane job of checking people's bags. Nonetheless, I promptly arrived for duty at the Alamodome and, from the moment I stepped foot inside, the excitement and energy enthralled me.
The other security employees and I were dispersed outside the stadium and waited patiently until the doors opened at 3 p.m. for the 5 p.m. game. Two people to a table, one with a metal detector wand and one with hands eager to check purses. All of a sudden, a rampant crowd emerged from behind the fences, and they were thirsty for some basketball. I then realized that this job was anything but vapid.
