The first weekend of Spring Break did not find too many members of the Trinity track and field team at the beach, but here in San Antonio at the Blossom Athletics Center for the University of Texas San Antonio (UTSA) Relay, a primarily Division I meet.
Chass Armstrong, sophomore, took first place in the men's 1500 meter with a time of 4:02.21.

"It was great for him to win in a DI meet," said Head Coach Jenny Breuer, though she added that Armstrong's time may have been even better had the distance-runner's competition been more intense.

Another standout on the men's side was Todd Wildman, junior, who set school records in high jump (6' 7.5") and 110-meter hurdles (14.74 sec.), earning himself NCAA Division III provisional qualifying marks in the process.

The best sprinter's performance was by Zach Brush, first year, who took third in the 800 meter run (1:56.10).

Among the men's field events, Chris Baer, junior, had an excellent performance coming in third in the javelin (185' 6").

"Two guys from UTSA beat me," he said. "They're pretty good. This is my first year throwing javelin, so I was pretty excited."
On the women's side, Alison Hoing, senior, finished 10th with a personal record in the 3,000 meter run (10:56.10). Loeffler, who qualified for nationals a few weeks ago at Texas State finished fourth in the 1,500 meter run (4:52.75).

"Distance isn't as competitive at this meet," she said. "Texas doesn't have the distance competition that other states do, and it helps when you have more competition."

The women's field team also did well, with Elizabeh Tweedy, sophomore, coming in fifth in the triple jump (35' 5.25"), and Sonia Bradey, first year, coming in fourth in the javelin throw (92' 7").

This weekend the track and field team goes to Rice University. According to Breuer, the competition should be good and the tournament should be well-run, and so Trinity's prospects for the meet are good.
"It's going to be mainly all DI schools as well," Breuer said, "which is pretty much all we compete against, though."
