Dear Editor,

I would like to be the first to express my support for the new plan to make the Sophomore College mandatory. I think students have been far too hasty in condemning it. I've known many sophomores in my time, and if there's one thing they need, it's control. Can a 19-year old, well-educated student of above-average intelligence rationally decide whether he wants to live in the Sophomore College or not? Of course not - they might say no.
If anything, they need further controls to protect them from themselves. I've seen some sophomores eating unhealthy foods and drinking sodas in Mabee. We need to strictly control their diets for their own good. And if you aren't mature enough to choose to live with a junior, you certainly aren't mature enough to choose your girlfriend or boyfriend. Maybe Dean Tuttle can screen potential candidates? And, in the interest of fostering a sense of community (as well as protecting students from dangerous off-campus parties), I propose that all dorms in the new Sophomore College be padlocked shut at 10 p.m. every night.

I only wish that when I was a sophomore rooming with a junior, there had been some sort of bureaucracy to protect me from my own poor decision making, but I suppose it's too late for me. Now we need to think about how to save the children. Children who can smoke, vote and register for military service, but who are in no way ready to be given a choice in their living arrangement.

This is quite retarded. And from what I hear, they're giving away the really nice halls, which us juniors and seniors deserve for having been here longer. (Continued…)

A mandatory community for sophomores will be unequivocally detrimental to the overall community of Trinity University. While the administration may not recognize this, a very large part of being a community at Trinity is based on relationships and friendships with upper and lower classes. (Continued…)

I left Trinity after my freshman year. My decision to leave was very difficult to make. I felt torn because I loved the academics, but I never made any real connections with fellow classmates. (Continued…)
