The games held at home this past weekend against Centre (Ky.) and DePauw (Ind.) brought mixed results and emotions to the women's basketball team. Despite their 13-5 overall record and an 8-2 conference record, the women continue to lead the west division of the Southern Collegiate Athletic Conference (SCAC), a position they hope to maintain as the SCAC tournament approaches.

Last Friday night at 6:00 p.m., the women handled the Centre Colonels 78-44, giving the Lady Tigers a conference win and confidence for the future.

"We were really happy," said First Year Danielle Hubenak. "We came out pretty strong and we played the whole game as a team. We were all on the same page, both defensively and offensively. We focused on what needed to get done, and it felt good to be able to work as a team and be able to do so well."

According to Head Coach Amie Bradley, the Centre game was one of the team's best defensive efforts of the year, as Centre was never able to come more than 26 points to Trinity throughout the entire game.
"Everyone contributed," Bradley said. "It was pretty balanced scoring, and everyone got to play. We held them only to 44 points in the game, so that's a pretty strong effort defensively."

However, the game also stands as one of the women's best offensive efforts. The women scored over 50 points in the first half, with Senior Meghan Scholbe leading the Tigers with 14 points and 10 rebounds, and Hubenak gathering 8 rebounds, 7 assists, and scoring 9 points. Senior Tierney Hughes and Junior Genevieve Hurlbutt scored 10 points each.

"It's always good to win conference games at home," Bradley commented. "You have to win the ones at home at conference to be in the top part of the conference."

Although the Centre game was positive, the game against the DePauw Tigers last Saturday night was the Centre game's antithesis. The women brilliantly endured a difficult battle the first half of the game, ending the half only one point behind DePauw, but they seemed to lose their grip in the second half.
