Last weekend, the Trinity men's soccer team added two shutouts to its record, while the women registered one win and one tie in double-overtime.
On the men's side, Trinity won 3-0 against DePauw University (Ind.) on Friday night, and 2-0 against Centre College (Ky.) on Sunday, bringing the men's record to 15-0-0 overall and 7-0-0 in the conference. They remain the No. 1 D-III team.
On the women's side, Trinity won 2-0 against DePauw on Friday, and tied Centre 1-1 on Sunday, bringing their record to 10-3-1 (5-0-1). The women are now ranked No. 19 in NCAA D-III soccer.
The men's team won on Friday with two goals from midfielder Tyrone Petrakis, junior. Also during this game, midfielder Ben Stewart, senior, made two assists giving him the third most career assists in school history.
"It was a big game," said Assistant Men's Soccer Coach Chris Garcia-Prats, "Because it was the No. 1 team in the country versus the No. 23 team. Both were 5-0 in conference."
According to Garcia-Prats, DePauw is a good enough team that the men did not expect a blow-out.
"Overall we had a positive performance," he said, "but I wish we could've finished a little better in front of the net. It could've been tighter."
The men's team had even higher expectations on Sunday.
"Centre has been a rival for us for about 10 years, going back to '91," Garcia-Prats said. "They beat us in '91, and that's a sore place for some of our alumni, and some of them were in town."
Trinity scored two goals in the first half of the Sunday game, one from forward Cameron Hogsett, first year, and one from Petrakis assisted by forward Matt Beham, senior.
"We deserved to win and it was a good win for us," Garcia-Prats said.
"The DePauw game is always a fun game. It's on Friday night, and we still get great crowds and great support, but then Centre is a big rival and we just really like to beat them," Garcia-Prats said.
In the women's Friday night game, defender/midfielder Danika Wright, first year, and midfielder Jennifer Wray, senior, both scored, completing an eight game winning streak.
