BREAK ON THROUGH: Wide receiver Justin Cooper, junior, protects the ball as a slew of Texas Lutheran University defenders struggle to bring him down in the first home game of the 2007 season on Saturday which Trinity won by a three touchdown margin, bringing their record to 2-0.

The Trinity Tigers thrashed Texas Lutheran University 31-10 last Saturday at E.M. Stevens Field, avenging their 14-9 loss to the Bulldogs early last season. But more importantly, the Tigers' ran their record to 2-0 on the season sending the near 2,000 Trinity faithful home happy.
Trinity wasted no time establishing lead. The Tigers led 14-0 after the first quarter and 21-3 with 3:37 to go in the half. But TLU, behind the running of RB Anthony Smith (26 car, 141 yds), cut the deficit to 11 with 48 seconds remaining in the half; the Bulldogs, would get no closer after that. Tiger K Pete Licalzi, senior, nailed a 34 yard FG as the first half expired to push the lead back to 14, at 24-10, and the lone TD of the second-half by Trinity finished the scoring at 31-10.
The victory over Texas Lutheran followed a familiar formula for the Tigers: suffocating defense and a potent passing attack, that eventually overwhelmed the talented but under-matched opposition. Trinity QB Blake Barmore, senior, completed 18 of 27 passes for 280 yards and a TD, adding to his flourishing reputation as the Tigers' starting QB. But as quick as one of his wrist-flicked rockets, Barmore scoffed at the notion of any individual accolade.
"We've got great playmakers on both sides of the ball," Barmore said. "I've got ten other guys around me that really help do everything that I can do; it's more on them than it is on me. We're just getting better, and I think the more games we play, the more experience we get, the better we're gonna be."
Barmore, for his part, picked up right where he left off against ETBU in Week One, calmly racking up big yards while distributing the football to a number of receivers. On Saturday, he found seven different receivers. Riley Curry, junior, the Tigers' leading receiver from the 2006 squad, turned in a stellar game with 5 catches for 70 yards. Opposite Curry, newly-installed starting WR Chris Coleman, junior, recorded career-highs of both 6 catches and 111 yards. Barmore's lone touchdown came on a 24-yard strike to freshman WR Caleb Urban with 9:14 to go in the first quarter. It was Urban's first career touchdown.
