Stephanie Hankins, senior, won her first cross country title with a final time of 23 minutes and 21 seconds for the 6-kilometer race.
Jen Burn, junior, took second place with a time of 23 minutes and 26 seconds. Susanna Pierce, senior, was fifth (24:45) and Alison Hoing, junior, came in sixth (24:48).
The Trinity men's team placed third in the 8-kilometer run. Brad Robinson, senior, finished in eighth place (26:50) followed by Jeremy Daum, junior, who came in 13th (27:19).
The Tigers previously competed at the University of the Incarnate Word (UIW) on Oct. 6.
In that meet, the Trinity women outran the competition, with four of the team's runners taking spots in the five.
Emily Loeffler, sophomore, finished in second (23:55) behind an unattached runner. Hankins (23:58), Burn (24:01) and Elizabeth Eder, sophomore, (24:07) rounded out the rankings.
Hankins benefited from previous experience on the Trinity track and field team, where she was awarded Southern Collegiate Athletic Conference (SCAC) Female Athlete of the Year in 2003 and 2004.Hoing attributed the team's current success to the talent of its runners.
"We have a very talented top five this year," Hoing said. "The entire team is very strong, and we hope to qualify for nationals."
Having completed five regular-season meets, the Tigers strive for similar successes at the SCAC Championships in Danville, Ky., on Oct. 28.
Three of the top five women's runners, including Loeffler and Eder, were given a rest on Saturday's meet in preparation for the SCAC meet.
Head Coach Jenny Breuer fully expects the men's team to be up to the challenge of conference competition.
"The team is doing very well, and the men's team is healthy again, so we should be prepared for the conference," Breuer said.
The men's cross country team took third at the UIW meet, with Robinson and Chass Armstrong, first year, placing in the top 10. They expect victory with the return of Bryant Wright, first year. Wright had been sidelined temporarily while he recovered from a broken foot.
He competed in his first collegiate race last weekend at TLU and came in third on the team and 17th overall with a time of 27 minutes and 40 seconds.
Despite constantly improving opposition, Joe Tognetti, senior, anticipates Trinity's triumph at the SCAC meet.
"We will certainly be competitive," Tognetti said. "Our women's team can easily compete for the top spot at the conference."
The cross country team faces nationally ranked opposition such as DePauw University (Ind.) and Colorado College at the upcoming meet.
