For all of the not intensely competitive students out there, Hallympics provides an opportunity to break out of your regular academic routine and have fun.

This event fosters sportsmanship and camaraderie while allowing former star athletes to relive their high school glory.

For first years, this is a chance to meet people who don't necessarily live on your floor. I first met quite a few of my friends by participating in Hallympics.

Guys from the first floor stalked around the residence hall trying to recruit females to play on the flag football team. They needed a certain amount of women on the field at all times, and they had not yet met that quota. So I ended up playing in the opening game.

Hallympics is just the first step into the world of Trinity athletics. The next stage in the evolution of true Trinity athletes is reached when you participate in Intramural (IM) sports.

You don't even have to like contact sports to get into the IM spirit. The IM program includes table tennis and a swim meet for the contact-wary.

I played IM tennis doubles last year and had a great time joking around with my partner while we tried to smash the ball over the net.

The atmosphere is much more chill than that of a varsity competition, and it allows competitors to really enjoy the familiarity that comes along with playing a sport.

Club teams compete on a more regional level than varsity teams, but they share a major similarity in that they both travel to compete. These teams generally require less team practice and are more academic-friendly than the demanding varsity teams.

If time allows, I will join the club tennis team that has been proposed and should soon be approved. This gets me into three of the levels of sports participation.

I do not have the athletic prowess or time required of varsity athletes, so that keeps me out of that group. However, I appreciate the effort that they put forth when they practice and compete.

I have promised myself and am now promising you to attend at least one game or match for each varsity sport and as many other athletic events as I can. Hope to see you there! Go Tigers!
