On their Friends and Family Weekend, Trinity women’s soccer remained unbeaten in the SCAC with a 7-0 win against Austin College and a 6-0 victory against Centenary College. The wins bring the Tigers’ shutout total to nine out of the teams’ 13 games.
Sophomore midfielder Emily Jorgens and first-year midfielder Kimberly Polasek brought home the SCAC Offensive and Defensive Players of the Week, respectively.
“I was really excited to receive the award but we’re more focused on team goals right now. My bigger concern is how our team does overall,” Jorgens said.
Friends and Family Weekend represented two of the five home games the Tigers have all season and the only full home weekend of the year.
“It was nice to be home. Leading up to this weekend, we had nine of our last 11 games on the road, so friends and family weekend was nice for the girls. It was special to have those games to recuperate and have some home games to recharge for the remainder of the season,” said assistant coach Owen Collie.
The Tigers travel next to the University of Dallas in a rematch of Trinity’s 6-2 victory on Friday, Sept. 21. The two goals given up by the Tigers in that performance are the only two goals the team has given up in SCAC play this entire season.
“I think we definitely have to be on guard when it comes to a couple of their players. Defensively, we are a bit stronger and more confident in our play. Last year, we struggled to break them down and ended up needing an overtime goal to beat them. We need to be on our best and be wary of their best players,” Collie said.
The team is also now fifth in all of Division III and first in the SCAC in total scoring offense at 4.23 goals per game.
“We have some really great attacking players that create opportunities and finish them. We’re still working to make that number go up,” said sophomore midfielder Kelsey Falcone.
After the trip to Dallas this weekend, the Tigers will have their final home game of the season on Friday, Oct. 26 against Southwestern before beginning the SCAC Championships in Georgetown, Texas on Friday Nov. 2.
